Over the course of time spent at Our Lady of Mercy School, students develop and can be expected to demonstrate the following characteristics and abilities citing evidence of their comprehensive education:

1. Commitment to Wisdom and Life Long Learning

Students of Our Lady of Mercy School will be taught that the pursuit of truth is an active, life long experience and that all education is ultimately self-education. At the time of graduation, the OLM student will:
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for varying world views;
  • Demonstrate a quest for balance and harmony in life, being able to establish personal boundaries while respecting others;
  • Demonstrate a capacity for critical thinking and reflective problem solving;
  • Demonstrate growth in learning from the joy of success and the frustration of failure;
  • Demonstrate a creative intelligence and imagination in a variety of disciplines.

2. A Scholarly Approach to Learning

Students of Our Lady of Mercy School will be taught to develop a methodical and reasoned approach to learning and problem solving. At the time of graduation, the OLM student will:
  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically, act creatively and carefully solve problems;
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills necessary to successfully pursue secondary education;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in small and large problem solving groups;
  • Demonstrate an ability to use technology creatively and usefully
  • Demonstrate quality work in academics, sports, and the arts;
  • Demonstrate a sense of personal organization including time management, prioritizing, and the ability to implement a plan;
  • Developed the art of questioning in order to define and solve problems;
  • Begin to exhibit confidence and skill in public speaking.

3. Spiritual Growth

Students of Our Lady of Mercy School will develop a personal spirituality based on prayer, faith tradition, relationship with community and living their faith in the world through service. At the time of graduation, the OLM student will:
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the Church's teaching about Jesus Christ as well as the sacramental expressions of His mission;
  • Develop the skills necessary for the continuing Students of Our Lady of Mercy School will develop a personal spirituality based on prayer, faith tradition, quest for self-understanding;
  • Develop an ability to articulate one’s own faith and beliefs.

4. Moral Judgment

Students of Our Lady of Mercy School will develop a strong sense of self-worth and compassion for others, which leads to the establishment of meaningful relationships. At the time of graduation, the OLM student will:
  • Demonstrate an awareness of God's love by extending that love to self, family, friends, and the communities to which she/he belongs;
  • Demonstrate evidence of a value system guided by spiritual values:
  • Demonstrate an ability to form lasting friendships and respectful relationships;
  • Demonstrate empathy for others:
  • Support the school community by participating in activities of the school.

5. Discerning the Call to Servant Leadership

Students of Our Lady of Mercy School will learn the principles and skills of leadership. At the time of graduation, the OLM student will:
  • Demonstrate an understanding that Christian leadership is centered in building the Kingdom of God by serving others;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of manners and a sense of courtesy;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of conflict resolution and the ability to successfully apply it in daily living.
  • Develop a commitment to service, especially to the poor.
