OLM
Our Lady of Mercy - Home

Overview

The school sponsored sports program is available to all students meeting the grade and age criteria to participate in each particular sport.
Interscholastic teams are offered in Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Running Club, Cross Country and Soccer, and play against teams from other schools of similar size.
Female and male students are encouraged to participate.
All students who commit to the team become members of the team and are expected to commit to the end of the season.

Philosophy

Our Lady of Mercy School believes all children should have the opportunity to participate in an organized sports program. Many aspects of child development are firmly tied to the sports experience. It is with this belief in mind that the program has been developed to be consistent with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Our Lady of Mercy School, encompassing Christian ideals, promoting good sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and school spirit.

Purpose

The purpose of the program is to:
  • Engage in healthy competitive play
  • Develop and promote good sportsmanship
  • Teach the fundamental skills of the sport
  • Learn to play as a team member

Greater New Haven Parochial Athletic League

OLM is an active member of the Greater New Haven Parochial Athletic League (GNHPAL). GNHPAL and OLM promote the Pledge of Sportsmanship and require their athletes to uphold the same standards:
  1. I promise upon my honor to be loyal to my God, to my country, and to my church: to be faithful and true to all my obligations as a Christian and a citizen.
  2. I pledge myself to live a clean, honest, and upright life; to avoid obscene, profane, and vulgar language, and to induce others to avoid it.
  3. I bind myself to promote by word and example, a clean, wholesome sport.
  4. I will strive earnestly to be a person of whom my school, church, and my country may be justly proud.
The Greater New Haven Parochial Athletic League website offers access to league schedules, locations, directions, league requirements, General rules and guidelines, etc.

OLM occasionally plays against non-league opponents outside of the GNHPAL, including The Country School, St. John’s, Independent Day School, The Foote School, Hamden Hall, and Polson.

Any combination or division of teams will be based on the main factor of allowing all student athletes to engage in sports as part of the OLM community.
